Stump Grinding · Greater Lansing, MI

Stump grinding across Greater Lansing

Removing a tree usually leaves the stump behind. We grind it down below grade so you get your lawn, bed, or patio footprint back — with the chips cleaned up and the area ready for whatever comes next.

Who this is for

Homeowners who've had a tree taken down, are dealing with old stumps in the yard, or need a stump out of the way before landscaping, hardscaping, or a fence goes in.

What's included

  • Grinding the stump 6–12 inches below grade
  • Grinding visible surface roots when requested
  • Cleanup of chips and grindings
  • Backfill with clean topsoil (optional)
  • Reseeding the disturbed area (optional)

Problems we solve

  • Stump in the middle of the lawn that's a hazard to mow around
  • Old stump that keeps sending up suckers
  • Stump in the way of a planned patio, wall, or fence line
  • Rotting stump attracting insects near the house

Pricing factors

Every job is different — here's what actually drives the number:

  • Stump diameter measured at the widest point
  • How many stumps are being ground on the same visit
  • Access — a walk-out backyard versus a tight gated side yard
  • Depth of grinding required for the follow-up work
  • Whether you want the chips hauled off or left as mulch

Frequently asked

How deep do you grind stumps?+

Standard grind is 6–12 inches below grade — enough for lawn, planting bed, or most landscape uses. Deeper grinding for patios, footings, or foundations is quoted per job.

Do you haul off the chips?+

Either way. Most homeowners have us leave the chips as mulch or backfill the hole; we can also haul them off for an added fee.

Can you reseed the spot after?+

Yes. We can backfill with topsoil and reseed as part of the job so the lawn recovers.

Do you grind the roots too?+

We grind visible surface roots that run from the stump when requested. Full root chasing is possible but priced separately.
