Paver Patio & Pergola
A 600-square-foot paver patio with integrated seat walls, fire pit, and cedar pergola for an Okemos backyard.
About this project
This Okemos backyard had a tired stamped concrete pad that had cracked and tilted toward the foundation. The clients wanted real outdoor space they'd actually use — somewhere to host family, sit by a fire, and look at the yard instead of away from it.
We removed the failed concrete, regraded the area away from the house, and built a 600-square-foot paver patio with integrated seat walls along two edges. A gas fire pit anchors the seating area, and a cedar pergola frames the dining zone.
Low-voltage lighting on the seat walls, in the pergola posts, and along the surrounding plantings finishes the space — making it the part of the house that gets used most often, even in October.
Materials used
- Techo-Bloc Borealis paver in greystone
- Natural limestone capstone on seat walls
- Cedar pergola with cable lighting
- Brass low-voltage path and accent fixtures
Challenges solved
- Removing and disposing of 600 sq ft of failed stamped concrete
- Regrading away from the foundation to fix the original drainage issue
- Coordinating gas line for the fire pit through existing plantings
